District 106 Voters in NC Deserve the Best

Charlotte, NC — The ADOS Advocacy Foundation’s North Carolina Chapter strongly condemns recent actions by Democrat operatives in North Carolina‘s District 106. Equally important, their actions in District 106 undermine the core principles of democratic representation and fair political participation.

In North Carolina, we have witnessed attempts by party leadership to penalize an elected official for acting on behalf of their constituents. In particular, when access to essential campaign infrastructure and party-maintained voter data are weaponized against a constituent-focused representative, it erodes representation and silences the very voice voters chose to amplify.

Consequently, the ADOS Advocacy Foundation’s North Carolina Chapter views these measures as deeply troubling. Political retaliation and exclusionary tactics weaken accountability to District 106 and North Carolina. Moreover, this precedent creates a chilling effect on elected officials who seek to govern with integrity and independence.

“Elected officials must be accountable first and foremost to the people who elected them — not to party bosses or political insiders,” said Simeon Harris, an ADOS North Carolina Chapter member. “Furthermore, denying access to essential campaign tools as punishment for independent decision-making is antithetical to democratic principles and to the lived interests of the communities we serve.”

Additionally, the North Carolina Chapter is also discouraged by endorsements of punitive challenges against elected representatives by party elites. Such actions send a harmful message: that political conformity is valued over substantive engagement with the real challenges facing our communities.

“We stand firmly for political leaders who champion issues that matter to American Descendants of Slavery — from reparations and economic justice to equitable healthcare and voting rights,” said ADOS Advocacy Foundation President Yvette Carnell. “When leaders are punished for fighting for their people, we all lose.”

The ADOS Advocacy Foundation — North Carolina Chapter oppose any practice that stifles independent leadership, deters courageous representation, or weakens accountability to voters. Likewise, we reaffirm our commitment to grassroots political empowerment, genuine community advocacy, and democratic participation that centers justice for American Descendants of Slavery in North Carolina and beyond.
